Black Forest, sustainability, uma writing instruments
The objective of the PEFC certificate is to improve the sustainable management of forestry in respect of economic, ecological and social standards: high quality achieved through stringent management specifications and inspection methods, low costs through efficient operational procedures. PEFC is represented in 31 countries (including 25 European countries). 67% of German forested areas - which equates to more than 7.3 million hectares - are already under the PEFC umbrella, making it not just globally but also in Germany the most successful forestry certification system.
However, that success depends on the timber extracted reaching the end customer as wood bearing a PEFC certificate. Verification of the 'timber flow', known as the Chain of Custody, must include every link in the chain. That in turn entails certification of the businesses engaged in commercial forestry.
As a producer from the Black Forest, we are delighted to be able to guarantee you PEFC-certified wooden writing instruments, and in so doing to contribute towards the conservation of sustainable raw materials. For uma Schreibgeräte Ullmann GmbH it would be inconceivable for us not to be participating in this programme for sustainable forestry management, and to be engaged in the conservation of an important raw material. With this PEFC logo and its associated certification number, uma demonstrates its legitimacy as a sustainable producer of wooden writing instruments.
